St. James Preschool has been a dream of this parish for many years and God has blessed us
by providing us with a wonderful facility in which to learn and play. We offer a non-profit
preschool program for 2, 3, & 4 year-old children.
Our children meet 3 hours a day Tuesdays through Fridays. A 16-member staff currently
serves about 80 children from the surrounding community. Our goal is to help children
develop self-esteem, an eagerness for learning, social growth, and the ability to think and
work independently.
Our children learn about God, His goodness and His role in our lives. Daily activities include
circle time, center time, music & movement, snack, physical education, crafts, art, religion,
story time, and show & tell.
We also offer a Mother's Morning Out Program of supervised activities for
children 12 months to 23 months old.
The St. James Preschool programs strive to promote good Christian values
that form the foundation of our Catholic faith and reflect the love of Christ.
If you would like to tour our facility and see our programs in action, please contact the
Preschool Office at 770-898-5441 ext 108. Tours are available between 9:30 a.m. and 10:00
a.m.
Mission Statement
St. James Preschool is an outreach ministry of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church and
celebrates the Roman Catholic Tradition. Our mission is to foster the development of each
child's spiritual, cognitive, emotional, physical and social self in a nurturing and
creative learning environment that reflects the love of Christ.
Philosophy
We strive to promote the Christian virtues of compassion, honesty, cooperation, friendship,
generosity, goodness, stewardship, faithfulness, knowledge, and creativity that forms the
foundation of our Catholic faith.
Our Goals
We believe that play, exploration, and discovery are aspects of an early childhood learning
program; that children learn best through play and hands-on experiences.
We recognize that children have different learning styles. We strive to guide the individual
developmental difference in children through multi-sensory learning
We employ positive discipline techniques that are not punitive, but reflect respect and regard
the uniqueness and dignity of each child.
The curriculum offers thematic units of study that integrate religion, math, language, reading
readiness, science, art, crafts, music, play, and discovery.
We believe that a preschool should be an extension of the home.
