The Elijah Cup: A prayer for vocations
Each week at Sunday Mass, the celebrant will call an individual, couple, or family forward to receive the Elijah Cup. They receive a blessing and take the cup home, putting it in a place of honor. Each day for a week, during prayer time (morning, bedtime, or at meals), the family prays for an increase and perseverance of vocations. A prayer journal travels with the cup. The family that has the cup enters thoughts, prayers, or scripture verses in this journal. Over time, this diary becomes the
spiritual journal for the parish. The following Sunday, the Elijah Cup is returned so that another family may receive it.
Prayer is the most powerful way to support vocations. A vocation is a call from the Holy Spirit, a gift from God that is nurtured in prayer. When we pray for vocations, we lift up to our Father those men and women whom He is calling in a very special way. We hope that those who bring the cup home will continue to pray for vocations daily.
Program sign up sheets are located on the small table outside the parish hall entrance to the Church.
Do not be afraid.
